#10 Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town, located on South Africa’s south westerly coastline, is one of the most naturally beautiful cities on the planet. Not only is Cape Town home to the iconic Table Mountain, but it’s also a stone’s throw from the Cape of Good Hope, located at the tip of the Cape Peninsula. Remarkable coastline, sensational views and captivating landscape make Cape Town the ideal location to embark on a guided helicopter flight.
The city isn’t just famous for its incredible landscape though, Cape Town also boasts a collection of stunning structures and delightful districts, including the mighty Cape Town stadium and the charming V&A Waterfront. From high in the skies, you’ll get the chance to truly appreciate everything Cape Town has to offer, from mountains and beaches to marinas and stadiums. You’re guaranteed to have one heck of a ride.
#9 Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska
Ahh Alaska, often referred to as the last frontier, this wondrous region is home to some of the most exquisite terrain on planet Earth. From dense forests to towering mountains, Alaska is rightfully the ultimate playground for all nature enthusiasts. But nothing can ever fully prepare travellers for their first sighting of the monumental Mendenhall Glacier! Can you believe, this colossal glacier spans a length of over thirteen miles, that’s the entire length of Manhattan! This means the only way to truly grasp the incredible magnitude of Mendenhall, is to explore the glacier from high in the sky, aboard a truly gripping and thrilling helicopter flight.
Helicopter flights over Mendenhall Glacier are also packed full of handy and useful information, giving passengers a rare and knowledgeable insight into the formation and current situation of the glacier. Passengers on the guided heli tours are also given a fantastic opportunity to physically step foot onto the glacier. Helicopters will set down amongst the vast plains of Mendenhall Glacier and allow visitors time to embark on a short walk of the glacial surface, before flying them back to their departure point.
#8 Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
Rio De Janeiro is one of those cities that looks as though it was purposely designed to be flown around in a helicopter. From Sugar Loaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer to Copacabana beach and Macarena Stadium, Rio is bursting at the seams with a phenomenal collection of sensational sights.
You’ll not only get the opportunity to admire the spectacular coastline surrounding the city, but you’ll also be able to get an incredible perspective of Rio’s bustling and exuberant neighbourhoods. These vibrant districts stretch out for miles into the distance, for as far as the eye can see.
#7 Victoria Falls, Zambia & Zimbabwe
Victoria Falls is arguably the most beautiful set of cascading waterfalls on the planet. Set amongst thick and luscious jungle, on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls is truly an extraordinary spectacle to behold. The sheer expanse of the falls is truly breathtaking, at twice the height of Niagara Falls, Victoria Falls sees a staggering 500 million litres of water flowing over its edge every single minute!! That’s the same amount of water it would take to fill 200 Olympic sized swimming pools!
As much as this stunning location is fantastic to view from the ground, it’s even more breathtaking from an aerial perspective. Helicopter flights over Victoria Falls give passengers the chance to experience the true extent of this phenomenal natural wonder. It’s not just the falls themselves that are impressive though, so too is the luscious jungle and vibrant landscape that encompasses Victoria Falls. A helicopter flight at Victoria Falls is one of those experiences that stays with you forever, and most certainly gets talked about for many years to come.
#6 Sydney, Australia
Sydney is my all-time favourite city in the world, for a wide variety of reasons. But you need to trust me on this one, there’s no better way to truly appreciate the full extent of Sydney’s bustling harbour, than by flying overhead on a guided helicopter tour. Departing from Sydney’s airport, you’ll be flown over an abundance of stunning buildings and idyllic parks before arriving in the skies over the harbour, and of course, the world famous Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Another added bonus of joining a helicopter flight over Sydney, is that the city is located within close proximity to an abundance of stunning coastline and pristine beaches. This means the majority of tours also fly over to Bondi and Coogee Beach, as well as a number of other smaller beaches, giving customers the opportunity to feel as though they’re experiencing two helicopter flights in one!
#5 Kauai, Hawaii
The islands of Hawaii genuinely boast some of the most unique and exquisite terrain on planet Earth. With the island of Kauai displaying the very best this spectacular archipelago has to offer. Therefore, it’s no wonder this marvellous location makes it onto the list of best helicopter flights in the world.
During the flight around Kauai, you’ll get the opportunity to soak up amazing views of perplexing volcanoes, mystifying canyons and utterly breathtaking coastline. On top of this, you’ll also get a truly unmatched bird’s eye view of the phenomenal Pacific Ocean, due to Hawaii’s naturally isolated position. You can even go the full shebang and opt to fly with the doors off! Trust me, this is one of the best ways to bag yourself the ultimate collection of volcanic Hawaiian shots.
#4 Great Barrier Reef, Australia
What better way to take in the planet’s largest underwater coral reef, than by jumping in a helicopter and travelling 100 miles per hour over this vibrant and exotic natural wonder of the world. The Great Barrier Reef is spread across an astonishing area of over 130,000 square miles, that’s roughly the same size as the UK, Switzerland and the Netherlands all put together!!
As the sheer size of the Great Barrier Reef is so immense, you’ll be able to choose from a number of departure points to head for the skies in a helicopter. No matter where you depart from, the views and experience will undoubtedly be truly remarkable. (This was one of my personal favourite experiences in Australia.)
#3 New York City, USA
There aren’t many cityscapes in the world, that are more iconic than New York City. The wonderous area of downtown Manhattan, appears as though it was purposely built to be admired and appreciated from high in the sky. You’ll see a whole range of world famous buildings and sights as you soar high over this booming metropolis. Zooming around in a helicopter over Manhattan, Central Park and the Statue of Liberty is definitely up there as one of the best activities to experience anywhere in the USA.
Not to mention, there are also tons of options to choose from when booking a helicopter flight over New York City. Opt to fully immerse yourself in adrenaline with a doors off flight or alternatively fly in style with a luxurious sunset tour. Whichever setup you choose, you’re guaranteed one heck of a ride, you certainly won’t be forgetting your trip in a hurry.
#2 Everest Base Camp, Nepal
Everest Base Camp is surrounded by some of the most naturally beautiful and humanly untouched landscape on the planet. Making it one of the most mesmerising and picturesque helicopter flights in the world.
Base Camp is also exceptionally special, due to its dizzying whereabouts, located a spine tingling 5364 metres above sea level. This means most helicopters are pushed to their absolute altitude limit in this region. If they were to go much higher than this, the air would become too thin for the propellors to keep the helicopter in flight.
Trust me, seeing the staggering enormity of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayas from the sky, is well worth the price tag that comes along with the helicopter flights on offer here.
#1 Grand Canyon, USA
Taking the number one spot as the best helicopter flight in the world, is none other than the sensationally vast and exquisitely beautiful Grand Canyon. This utterly breathtaking location arguably boasts the most obscure landscape on planet Earth. Unbelievably, the Grand Canyon has an insane depth of over 1800 metres and stretches a mind boggling 227 miles through the American state of Arizona.
The only way to genuinely appreciate the canyon to its fullest potential, is by heading to the skies on a once in a lifetime helicopter spectacle. This is personally one of my favourite travel experiences, not just in the USA, but in the entire world. I can only attempt to describe the sheer adrenaline rush you’ll feel coursing through your veins as you reach the elusive rim of the Grand Canyon. As you soar over the edge, the ground below you appears to completely vanish, right before your very eyes. It’s only then, that you’re able to truly appreciate the insanely colossal depth and mammoth size of this breathtaking location.
Few experiences in the world, can match the sheer excitement and delight that accompanies a guided helicopter flight. Combine this experience with some of the most beautiful destinations on planet Earth, and you’re bound to create a memory that’ll last a lifetime.
So, what are you waiting for? Where’re you heading for the skies?!
